The Delhi High Court on Wednesday pulled up the Delhi Police for delay in submitting the post-mortem report on the murder of Nido Tania, a student from Arunachal Pradesh, even a week after the incident.
A Division Bench of Justice N.V. Ramana and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw has been hearing the matter suo motu. The Bench had on Monday directed the police to file a status report on the incident and the on-ongoing probe into it.
Earlier, the Delhi Police counsel filed a status report in the matter without the post-mortem report. The investigating agency sought more time to submit the autopsy report. The Bench returned the report directing the probe agency to file a complete one along with the post-mortem details by February 7.

The Bench returned the status report when the advocate for the police submitted that without the post-mortem report, the injuries of the victim could not be related to his death.
The Bench expressed its displeasure over the delay in preparing the post-mortem report, saying that it seemed the infrastructure for testing of scientific evidence in the Capital was at a primitive stage.
Tania, son of an Arunachal Pradesh MLA, was allegedly beaten up by some shopkeepers at Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi when he allegedly retaliated on being mocked about his hairstyle. He later died. The police have registered a murder case in the matter. The Delhi Government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into it.
