The Madhya Pradesh High Court has admitted a petition to revoke the Bharat Ratna awarded to cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar for allegedly using the “fame” the honour has brought him in “earning money by endorsing commercial products”.

A Bench, comprising Chief Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and Justice K.K. Trivedi, directed the Assistant Solicitor-General on Thursday to find out if the Supreme Court had issued do’s and don’ts for Bharat Ratna winners and get back to it in a week’s time.

The petitioner, V.K. Naswah, of Bhopal said Sachin exploited the “fame” of Bharat Ratna to promote commercial products, which was beneath the dignity, legacy and tenets of the highest civilian award. — PTI
