The third phase of the Delhi Metro will not only connect all major areas of the city but also provide more alternatives to people travelling between several existing destinations.
With the increase in number of interchange stations, several corridors are expected to get de-congested as commuters will have multiple routes to opt from to travel between destinations. Travel time on the alternate corridors will remain more or less the same.
The proposed 9.3-km-long Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate corridor will help de-congest the existing stretch between the same stations on Line 2 (Jehangirpuri-HUDA City Centre).

At present, the commute between Central Secretariat and Kashmere Gate takes about 12 minutes, while the new stretch is expected to take around 14 to 15 minutes, without passing through the extremely busy Rajiv Chowk station.
The Janakpuri (West)-Botanical Garden, Noida, stretch would be one of the longest, covering 37 km and would provide an alternative for commuters travelling between the same destinations on Line 3 (Dwarka Sector 21-Noida City Centre). Both the stretches will take about 50 to 55 minutes time to cover.
The Rajouri Garden-Mayur Vihar stretch will be a part of the 56-km-long Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar corridor. This will be an alternative for people travelling between the same destinations at present on Line 3 and will match the existing travel time of 35 to 40 minutes between the two destinations.

The Azadpur-INA stretch will be a part of the Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar corridor and is expected to decongest the existing stretch on Line 2. Travel between these two destinations after completion of Phase- III will take about 35 to 40 minutes.
