The mercury settled slightly below the 40 degree Celsius mark in the city on Tuesday as the partly cloudy sky kept the temperatures in check.

By evening, many parts of the city received light to moderate rain following a dust storm/thunderstorm that was accompanied by gusts of wind. The maximum settles at 39.9 degrees Celsius, one notch below the season’s average, while the minimum was a pleasant 22.2 degrees Celsius, five degrees below average for this time of the year.

Humidity levels were high, ranging between 84 per cent and 24 per cent. Weather stations at Safdarjung, Lodhi Road, Palam, Ridge and Ayanagar recorded rainfall of 2.9 mm, 2.2 mm, 6.0 mm, 0.7 mm and 10.2 mm respectively over the past 24 hours, Meteorological Department informed.

The weatherman has forecast partly cloudy skies along with the possibility of light rain and thunderstorm in some parts of the city on Wednesday, with the maximum and minimum expected to settle at 39 and 24 degrees respectively.

The region surrounding Delhi is expected to receive around 85 per cent of rain of the Long Period Average, with a model error of plus or minus eight per cent. The region had received less rainfall last year and the projection of low rainfall, which may be attributed to the El-Nino phenomena, is likely to bring in tough times for agriculture in the region.
