Shelter homes with basic facilities to be set up

To deal with the growing stray cattle menace, Gautam Budh Nagar administration on Wednesday formed three committees – at the district, tehsil and block level – to catch and put the cattle in temporary shelter homes.

The administration will set up shelter homes with basic facilities like fodder and water and also hold weekly meeting for proper implementation of the programme. Vets will also be deployed for animal check-up at these shelters. The administration will also visit villages and urge farmers not to abandon their cattle.

The number of stray cattle has increased tremendously as dairy owners abandon them once the cows stop producing milk. These cattle then roam around the city, leading to traffic issues as well as accidents. In Jewar village, a man died last week after a stray cow gored him.
