Painter found murdered in Mehrauli

‘‘He had mutiple injuries on the face, it appeared that he was stoned to death’

A 45-year-old man was found murdered in south Delhi’s Mehrauli on Tuesday morning. The police have registered a case.

Belongings untouched

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Vijay Kumar said the victim has been identified as Prempal, who lived in a jhuggi in Rajpur Khurd. A painted, he had been staying there for the last 12 years. The police control room received a call around 8.30 a.m. regarding a person lying unconscious on the roadside at Hargobind Enclave.

“The police reached the spot. Prempal’s face and forehead had multiple injuries. It appeared that he was stoned to death. His belongings were untouched,” Mr. Kumar said.

When his family was informed about the incident, they told the police that Prempal was an alcoholic who went missing for days on end.

They also told the police that he had left the house on December 19 and had not returned home since.

His wife works as a housekeeper in a banquet hall. Prempal’s wife has been taking care of their five children for years now, the police added.

No enemies

They have registered a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) at Mehrauli police station. Investigation so far has revealed that Prempal did not have any enemies, Mr. Kumar said, adding that further probe is under way.
