Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Thursday organised its annual Open Day, which saw visits by students from several schools to learn about higher education opportunities at the university.
The outreach programme was first started three years ago and students have since then spent the day learning about various research projects being carried out by JNU. Union Minister Jitendra Singh was the chief guest at the event. In his address, he asked the students to inculcate a progressive and learning mindset guided by the bottom line of patriotic and nationalistic commitment.
“A university cannot be used as a platform for anti-India baiting. Free flow of thoughts is welcome but it has to be guided by the bottom line of patriotic and nationalistic commitment,” he said.

He said a university or any other institution of education should provide a fair opportunity for free exchange of ideas, ideologies and thoughts but the motive behind it was was to pollute young minds but rather to expose them so that they are able to evolve with spontaneity and conviction.
In his address, Vice-Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar encouraged students to ignite their zest for higher studies for betterment of society. He asked the students to think critically for problem-solving in the fields of security, health, agriculture, pedagogy and environment so that the nation can be strengthened.
