Octogenarian couple found murdered in Delhi

November 14, 2015 10:48 am | Updated March 25, 2016 12:39 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Manohar Lal Madan and his wife, Vimla, were killed by suspected robbers

An octogenarian couple was found murdered in their house in East of Kailash here in the early hours of Friday.

The police said the house was found ransacked and initial assessment pointed to Rs. 22,000 missing. The police are probing the incident from a robbery angle and suspect the role of “Bangladeshi gangs” in the crime.

The couple -- Manohar Lal Madan (86) and his wife Vimla Madan (80) -- was found lying dead in their bed by their youngest son, Sanjay, around 2 a.m. Sanjay, who lives with his teenage daughter on the first floor of the house, told the police that he was woken up by a sudden torchlight flash on his face.

“Sanjay rushed to nab the intruders, but they fled the house. He then rushed downstairs to check on his parents and found them dead,” said Sanjay’s sister-in-law Vandana. Prima facie, it seems, the couple was smothered with pillows, said a police officer.

Manohar Madan was a retired manager of Punjab National Bank. His eldest son Ashwani works for a bank in Mumbai, while his youngest son Sanjay is employed with TCS in Delhi. His second son Anil is settled in the U.S.

The elderly couple was sleeping on the ground floor of the house. The assailants, it appears, gained entry by breaking open the hinges of a sliding door of the drawing room.
