The Delhi Division of the Northern Railway on Tuesday launched a massive cleaning operation focused on Delhi Area.
Following the NGT direction, a high-level committee meeting to review the cleaning activities at stations and along the tracks in Delhi Area was also held . The meeting was attended by A.K.Mittal, Chairman, Railway Board, Ajay Shukla, Member (Traffic), A.K. Puthia, Northern Railway General Manager, and Arun Arora, Divisional Railway Manager (Delhi Division).
Officials said the cleaning operation on railway properties, including on the sides of railway tracks, has been started across the 33 stations in Delhi Area. “On 29 stations, the work has been given on contracts while the rest of the stations are being cleaned on a regular basis by the department,” a senior Northern Railway official said.

Also, following the NGT direction of initiating punitive action against the persons found littering in and around the station premises and along railway tracks, around 24,000 people have been penalised for littering during 2014-15 and fine amounting to Rs. 24 lakh has been collected,” an official said.
