Mercury falls by seven notches; more rain likely on Friday

Late evening showers accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed the Capital on Tuesday bringing the mercury down by seven notches.

The temperature fell by seven degrees at 9p.m. and settled at 31.2 degrees Celsius, a MeT department official said.

On Tuesday, the Safdarjung observatory registered a maximum temperature of 38.3 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year. The minimum temperature was recorded at 23.8 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal.

The Palam observatory registered a maximum temperature of 38.8 degrees Celsius, while areas under Lodhi Road, Ridge and Ayanagar recorded a day temperature of 38, 39 and 38.4 degrees Celsius, respectively. Humidity levels oscillated between 55% and 22%.

Cloudy skies

The MeT department had forecast cloudy skies on Wednesday with possibility of thundershowers, but the weather changed by late evening on Tuesday itself.

The weatherman has forecast a partly cloudy sky on Thursday, and possibility of development of thunder and lightning on Friday.
