The National Green Tribunal has directed the Airports Authority of India and the Delhi International Airport Limited to furnish a report on the steps taken to curb noise pollution in the area around the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
An NGT Bench said, “Let a factual and action-taken report be furnished in the matter by the AAI and DIAL within one month.”
The directions came when the green panel was hearing a plea filed by an NGO, Society for Protection of Culture, Heritage, Environment, Traditions and Promotion of National Awareness, that sought execution of a November 2017 order passed by the NGT.

“The official respondents shall ensure providing of a green belt around the boundary wall of the airport, while keeping both the safety and security in mind. The plantations shall be of the species which would only grow to the permissible height or would be maintained at the permissible height only,” the NGT had said in 2017.
It had further directed authorities to issue an advisory to all airlines operating out of the IGI Airport pertaining to a “judgment-based” use of reverse thrust, “keeping in view weather, length of runway, wind and other attendant circumstances to reduce the noise level” at the time of landing of aircraft.
