New Pink Line stretch to start operations on New Year’s eve

9.7-km-long corridor will be flagged off by Hardeep Puri, Manish Sisodia

The corridor is a part of the 59-km Pink Line on the Delhi Metro’s Phase-III network

Passenger operations on Delhi Metro’s Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 corridor of the Pink Line will begin on December 31.

The 9.7-km-long stretch will be officially flagged off by Union Minister Hardeep Puri and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on December 31.

CMRS approval

“The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety [CMRS] has accorded mandatory approval for commencement of passenger operations on the 9.7-km-long Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 section of the Pink Line. Passenger services will commence on this section on December 31 from 4 p.m.,” said DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal.

The corridor is part of the 59-km Pink Line on the Delhi Metro’s Phase-III network, which connects Majlis Park and Shiv Vihar.

Major transit hub

With the opening of this segment, commuters will be able to access Hazrat Nizamuddin metro station, which has been touted as a “major transit hub” owing to its proximity to Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station.

While this is the last segment of the Pink Line awaiting passenger operations, a section between Trilokpuri and Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 will not yet be functional due to a land dispute in the area.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) this year, among other corridors, inaugurated the Pink Line in phases.

The first section of the Pink Line between Majlis Park and Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus station was opened for passenger operations in March while the corridor between South Campus and Lajpat Nagar was opened to the public in August this year. A 17.8-km stretch between Shiv Vihar and Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake was made operational in October.

Interchange stations

Once the entire Pink Line is operational, commuters travelling on the line will have access to multiple interchange stations including Azadpur (Yellow Line), Netaji Subhash Place (Red Line), Rajouri Garden (Blue Line), INA (Yellow Line), Lajpat Nagar (Violet Line), Mayur Vihar-I (Blue Line).

Welcome (Red Line), Karkardooma and Anand Vihar ISBT (Blue Line) are the other stations with the interchange facilities that are available to the commuters currently.
