Stabbed a man to death, attempted to kill his father in 2012

A Delhi court has sentenced an accused to life imprisonment for stabbing a man to death and attempting to kill his father while they were sleeping.

“Considering the gravity of offence, the convict needs a commensurate sentence which may satisfy social and legal expectations. The convict is accordingly sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life,” Additional Sessions Judge A.K. Jain said while sentencing convict Sunder Singh.

The court held the accused guilty on the evidence by the deceased’s father Jagat Singh, saying that his testimony is corroborated by the medical evidence.

“Thus, despite non-credibility of the circumstance of recovery of knife and blood-stained jeans and shoes in the manner projected, prosecution is able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt that the accused Sunder Singh is involved in committing the murder of the deceased Dalbir and attempted to murder Jagat Singh,” the Mr. Jain said.

“Sunder is found guilty for commission of offence under Section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC, but acquitted of the charge under Sections 25/27 Arms Act,’’ the Judge said.

The prosecution said that on the night of December 7, 2012, complainant Jagbir Singh, who is the brother of the deceased was at his dhaba near Saket in south Delhi, when the accused came and started abusing him over some past disputes. The accused was allegedly drunk at that time. The accused left the spot after some people mediated between the two, but returned with his son after a few hours and stabbed Jagbir’s brother and beat Jagat up.

The son of the convict was found to be a juvenile-in-conflict with law and was not tried.
