Even as sources maintained that other representatives of the energy-sector companies whose officials have been arrested in the “corporate espionage” case could be summoned, the Delhi Police denied having issued any notice.
During their ongoing custodial interrogations, the corporate officials arrested in connection with the case — Shailesh Saxena, from Reliance Industries Ltd., Vinay Kumar from Essar group, K.K. Naik from Cairn India, Subhash Chandra from Jubilant Energy and Rishi Anand from Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group —have all admitted to have passed on the received papers to their higher-ups.
“At present, our focus is to verify the documents we have seized so far,” said a senior police officer It is, however, learnt that some more officials named by those in custody have been asked to join investigations on Monday. The arrested accused could be confronted with their colleagues on when the documents changed hands and how were those used to benefit the firms, said sources.

Another task cut out for the investigators now is to ascertain that in what way the documents purportedly obtained by the arrested corporates benefited their respective organisations. These documents had been leaving the ministry offices over the past two years according to the men who carried out the thefts.
“We have to first see all the documents which reached these hands and how the content in them influenced the policies or decisions of their firms. Only then can we can make an estimate of the money received,” said the officer.
Santanu Saikia, an energy consultant arrested in the case, has claimed that he was trying to unearth a Rs. 10,000 crore scam going on in the ministry. The officer did not comment on the claim.
