Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday ripped into Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that he would spread “lies” and “hatred” wherever he went and make promises without giving much thought.

He also took a jibe at Mr. Modi for calling himself “chowkidar” [watchman] saying that he was the “chowkidar” of tycoon Anil Ambani and not the masses.

Addressing a gathering at HUDA Ground Sector 5 here in support of party’s Gurugram Lok Sabha candidate Captian Ajay Yadav, Mr. Gandhi, without mincing the words, said that “Anil Ambani was a thief and the chowkidar [referring to Mr. Modi] had helped him”.
Amid loud cheers, Mr. Gandhi said that Mr. Modi took out money from the pockets of the common man in the name of a fight against black money through demonetisation and put it into the account of Mr. Ambani.
Mr. Gandhi said that Mr. Modi had made promises to the people to provide two crore jobs, deposit ₹15 lakh into every account and double the income of the farmers, but now he hesitated to refer to himself a “chowkidar” in his rallies fearing that someone might retort by calling him “chor”.

Waive off loan
He said the Congress did not believe in creating two different nations unlike the BJP, which had waived off debt worth crores of rupees of a few businessmen, but did nothing for the youth and the farmers. He said that the Congress government had kept their promises in three States and would waive off the loan of the farmers if voted to power. He also referred to the party’s ₹72,000 per year scheme NYAY and separate budget for the farmers.
Earlier, AICC general secretary and Haryana in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad cautioned the BJP not to hide behind the valour of the Army and seek votes on its performance for the past five years. Referring to the Modi government as “television ki sarkar” (the government of television), Mr. Azad appealed to the people to not to vote on the basis of their caste and religion saying that it was no “ordinary election”.
