Vir Kumar, who was arrested on Monday, would mix sedatives in the food he offered the victim before raping her. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-west) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere, medical examination of the girl confirmed rape.

The matter came to light when he left her reeling in pain in a park near her residence in J Block. The locals identified the girl and took her home, after which her parents called the police.

When the police reached the spot, she was apprehensive about talking to the officers. The girl was counselled by female officers, after which she narrated her ordeal.

“She was in pain when the neighbours found her. When they asked her about it, she did not say anything. The neighbours then took her home. When the police asked her gently, she told them about the rape,” said Mr. Dumbere.

According to the police, Kumar would lure the girl to his house promising her food and money.

Lured with money

“He would offer her ₹5 or ₹10 and also promise good food. Her parents are poor and father is a street vendor. The man would mix sedative in her food and force himself on her,” said a senior police officer.

Kumar resides with his family in Jahangirpuri. He was arrested the same day the first information report (FIR) on charges of rape was registered. Mr. Dumbere said further investigation on the sedative used is underway.
