Crowded trains will be a thing of the past with the Delhi Metro inducting into the network its first eight-coach train this Monday to coincide with the completion of 10 years of its operations.

The Jahangirpuri-HUDA City Centre corridor (Yellow Line) will see the first eight-coach train introduced as part of a fleet of 68 trains that will be introduced on both the yellow and blue lines (Dwarka Sector 21-Noida City Centre/Vaishali) in a phased manner. These trains will increase the carrying capacity of the metro system by approximately 600 commuters.

“The Delhi Metro has also decided to reserve more seats for senior citizens and the differently-abled on its trains from Monday onward,” said Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s chief public relations officer Anuj Dayal. Apart from the existing reservation of four seats for the old and the differently-abled in each car, four additional seats will be earmarked for senior citizens and the differently-abled in the “DT car” (coaches with train operator’s cabin attached) and an additional eight seats in the “M car” (the middle coaches).

In addition, Delhi Metro will mark the completion of 10 years of its operations with many other activities for the entire week between December 25 and 31 such as quiz shows at select stations.

Metro song

A commemorative film will be screened at metro stations and an exclusive metro song aired on FM radio channels and at the stations.
