An MBA graduate was arrested on Monday for duping cab drivers on the pretext of offering them government sector jobs, the police said on Tuesday.
Sudhir Kumar, who completed his MBA from a private institute in south Delhi in 2013, was arrested from the Oberoi Hotel in New Delhi area. Kumar, a resident of Green Park, used to move around in luxury cars. However, all his cars were impounded after a court order for his involvement in a previous cheating case.
“The accused was a proclaimed offender in two more cases of cheating and forgery where he had duped a businessman on the pretext of getting him tender of sand digging at a Delhi metro site. He conned another businessman of around ₹1 crore,” said a senior police officer.

Booked cab from hotel
App-based cab driver Satyavir Singh in his police complaint said that on March 31 a man had booked a cab from Oberoi Hotel to a location in Defence Colony. During the ride, the accused was assuring someone over the mobile phone that he will definitely get him a government job as he has good connections in various government departments and ministries.
After the call ended, the accused passenger asked the driver if he knew anyone who was interested in government jobs.

Transferred money
“I got lured by the offer he made during the ride and as per his assurance, I transferred a total sum of ₹90,000 in two different instalments to get a job of a driver for myself and a job of a peon for my younger brother. The passenger had assured to get both of us appointed by April 6,” said Singh.
Singh said the passenger stopped taking his calls after the amount was deposited in two separate accounts.
He got frantic and discussed his problem with his friend Sikesh Gupta, who is also a driver with an app-based car aggregator. Sikesh also narrated a similar story of a man who had recently duped him on March 27.
He revealed that he had also picked him up from the Oberoi Hotel, the police said. The victims approached the police to report the matter.
They simultaneously tried Kumar’s mobile several times but it was switched off. On Monday finally, Kumar answered Sikesh’s call and was told to meet at the Oberoi Hotel.
“The accused was nabbed by the victims in the hotel. They informed the police about the case and handed over him to Tughlak Road police station. He has been arrested under IPC section of 420 [cheating],” said a police officer. The accused was previously arrested in a cheating case registered in Tughlak Road police station in January 2018. Later, he jumped the bail and was declared a proclaimed offender.
“We are going through his phone records and other documents, including bank details, to find out the number of people who were duped by him,” added the police officer.
