Man stabbed to death, two held

The accused claim the victim was an extortionist, criminal

A 28-year-old was allegedly stabbed to death in west Delhi’s Khyala on Tuesday afternoon by two men who claimed that he used to extort money from them.

The accused have been arrested, the police said on Wednesday. Welder Akbar Ali was allegedly stabbed by Mohd. Shubhan and Mohd. Afzal in Vishnu Garden.

“They claimed Ali was a criminal who extorted money from them. This led to their decision to kill him,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Vijay Kumar, adding that the police are investigating the claim.

57-second video

In a 57-second video captured by a local, Ali is seen bleeding profusely on the road and asking for water. A local asks him his address but he is unable to say much. The police were informed, even as the locals rushed Ali to a hospital, where he succumbed to injuries on Wednesday.

“We have registered a case under Sections 302 [punishment for murder], 307 [attempt to murder] and 34 [common intention]. The accused do not seem to have any criminal background so far. Investigations into the background of the deceased are on,” said Mr. Kumar.
