A 25-year-old man was shot at by two bike-borne assailants while on the way to deposit cash in a bank at Hauz Khas in south Delhi on Wednesday morning.

The assailants intercepted the man and fired three gun shots at him, two of which hit him. The police suspect it to be a case of robbery bid gone wrong. However, they have not ruled out possibility of personal enmity. Efforts to identify and nab the accused are under way.

The victim, Sajjan Kumar, lives in east Delhi’s Patparganj and works for a coffee brand.
He sustained two bullet injuries in his thumb and near the ear, police said.
“He was followed from Jangpura to Hauz Khas. The attackers tried to shoot him near Sarai Kale Khan. However, he could manage to get away as they were on a scooty and he was on his bike. He was intercepted at Hauz Khas and they opened fire on him without any provocation,” said a police officer.

A PCR call was received at 9 a.m. informing about the incident. A police team rushed to the spot and the injured man was taken to the hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Eyewitness
An eyewitness told the police that the moment Mr. Kumar parked his bike to head to the bank, two men approached him and started an argument with him over parking. Then they asked him to handover the bag full of cash to them. When Mr. Kumar resisted, they pointed a pistol at him and as he tried to raise an alarm, they opened fire on him. As soon as locals began to gather, the assailants fled the spot, leaving the cash behind.
“The matter is being investigated from all possible angle. The victim is unfit to get his statement recorded. A case has been registered under IPC Section 307. We are scanning CCTV footage of the market to identify the attackers,” said DCP (South) Romil Baaniya.
Colleagues questioned
Mr. Baaniya also said that Mr. Kumar’s colleagues and other employees, who knew he was going to deposit the cash, are being questioned.
