Man kills 11-year-old daughter

May 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - New Delhi:

Doubting her biological origin, a man strangled his 11-year-old daughter before surrendering at the local police station in West Delhi’s Baba Haridas Nagar early on Tuesday.

According to the police, prima facie it appeared unlikely that the accused, whose identity is deliberately not being revealed, had raped his daughter prior to killing her. This is, however, being investigated.

“As of now it appears the accused wanted to silence his daughter as she might have been creating troubles for him,” a police officer said, adding that the nature of the troubles would be known after the accused was interrogated further. The police said the accused had been mentally disturbed ever since his wife allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train in Delhi less than a month ago. He is understood to have told the police that his wife was involved in an illicit relationship with a neighbour.

The accused worked as a farmer and lived with his wife, a son and a daughter in Dhichaon Kalan village near Dwarka. Ever since his wife’s death, his children began living away from him. His daughter had come to meet him when he strangled her. He then went to the Baba Haridas Nagar police station and confessed to the crime. “A police team recovered the child’s body. The accused was arrested and booked for murder,” the officer added.
