A 24-year-old caretaker of a night shelter-home in Central Delhi’s Ajmeri Gate last week was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by a man along with two others as he suspected him of having relations with his girlfriend.
One of the accused, who was arrested on Tuesday, revealed that Vishwajit was taken to Shahjahanpur where he was murdered. The accused has been identified as Deepak. At his instance, the police have launched a hunt for his accomplices named Hamid and Noori.
According to the police, Hamid and Noori stayed at the night shelter-home where Vishwajit worked. They gradually became friends. Noori’s girlfriend often visited him. He introduced her to Vishwajit.

“Vishwajit and the girl developed a liking for each other, which angered Noori and Hamid. The two roped in Deepak and they hatched a plot to kill Vishwajit,” said a senior police officer.
As planned, they met Vishwajit on November 14 and took him to Shahjahanpur on some pretext. There, they slit his throat and threw his body on the railway tracks. The Shahjahanpur Police had earlier registered a case of murder in this connection.
Hamid and Deepak returned to the Capital the next day and had been staying at the shelter-home.

On Tuesday, a team from the Kamla Market police station went to the shelter-home for routine verification of residents and found some of Deepak’s activities suspicious. He was then detained for questioning. “He was in an inebriated condition and was screaming that he did not kill Vishwajit,” the officer said. During interrogation, he purportedly confessed to his involvement and was subsequently arrested.
