Nabbed in Jharkhand; brought to Delhi on transit remand

A 29-year-old man was arrested from Jharkhand on April 29 for the murders of his live-in partner and her son on April 24 in south-east Delhi’s Okhla, the police said on Friday.

They said accused Babloo Kumar Mondal alias Sanjay alias Vijay suspected the woman of cheating on him.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said the victims have been identified as 30-year-old Sabitri Ghosh alias Bhado and her 8-year-old son.

The police said the couple met nearly eight months ago and later started living together at Janta Jeevan Camp.

“The couple had fights in the days leading up to the incident as Babloo suspected Sabitri of cheating on him. He also said she was dominating and did not listen to him. He got alcohol on April 23 and slit her throat after she got drunk. Then, he slit the throat of her son, who was asleep,” said Mr. Biswal.

During investigation, the police found the child’s school belt. They visited his school and obtained his admission form.

“Babloo was named as the boy’s father. His photograph was also used on the form. A village in West Bengal was named as his hometown,” Mr. Biswal said.

Raid were conducted in the village but the police did not find Babloo. He was arrested from Jharkhand’s Sahibganj following a tip-off.

“The accused was produced before a court and brought to Delhi on transit remand,” Mr. Biswal said.

Babloo told the police during interrogation that he had come to Delhi over 14 years ago and worked as a daily-wage labourer since then. He claimed that Sabitri came to Delhi after she lost her husband seven years ago and started working as a domestic help here. She lived in the same camp as Babloo.

The police said he used the knife they had bought together from Govindpuri market a few days ago to kill the woman and her son.
