A 28-year-old man allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Rohini Sector 3 late on Tuesday night.

Parents of the deceased, Pankaj, came to know about it on Wednesday morning when they went to his room to call him for breakfast and found him hanging from the ceiling fan. The police are suspecting a failed love affair to be the reason behind the extreme step. However, no suicide note has been found. A Police Control Room van that reached the spot rushed Pankaj to a hospital where he was declared dead upon arrival. The body was sent for an autopsy and the police at the South Rohini station initiated an investigation.

Pankaj, who worked as a peon in a government office, was married three years ago and also had a daughter. His wife had gone to her brother’s home on Tuesday night. Pankaj’s family told investigators that he behaved normally the previous night and even had dinner with his parents. According to the officer, some of Pankaj’s close associates claimed he had recently been interested in a woman. “During questioning of some of those who knew Pankaj, it came to the fore that the victim had developed a liking for a woman other than his wife and a failed love affair with the same woman might have led to this step. However, it is too early to confirm the same. We are also trying to ascertain if the deceased was having a domestic problem with his wife,” the officer said.
