The death of a 23-year-old man who was killed after his motorcycle was hit by a bus at the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border in Loni evoked angry reactions from a mob which burnt down the bus involved in the accident.

The victim, identified as Pushpendra, was a resident of Param Hans Vihar and had left home around 6 a.m. along with his younger brother, Pawan, on a motorcycle. Recounting what happened, Pawan said he was fortunate enough to survive as the accident took place almost immediately after Pushpendra had dropped him near the Loni main road where he had some work.

According to Pawan, after he got down from the motorcycle, his elder brother had driven off towards his office. “It was then that a speeding private bus coming from the direction of Uttar Pradesh hit my brother’s vehicle from the rear due to which he fell on the road and sustained injuries,” said Pawan.

The bus driver, however, did not stop the bus and Pawan requested another motor cyclist passing by to help him chase the erring driver and following a brief chase, they managed to intercept the bus.

The driver was then handed over to the policemen present at the picket.

In the meantime, the victim was taken to the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in a Police Control Room van, but was declared brought dead there.
