Police suspect dispute over property; two bodies recovered

A probe into a murder has unearthed a chilling tale of conspiracy and betrayal that led to the elimination of a six-member family.

A suspect held for the murder of property dealer and Bahujan Samaj Party politician Munawar Hasan in Burari allegedly confessed that he killed not just Hasan but also his wife and four children and buried them at two different locations.

Bunty, the main accused and one of the four men arrested, is a former business partner of Hasan.

He allegedly murdered Hasan’s family while the latter was in jail in connection with a 2015 rape case.

Bodies exhumed

Following Bunty’s confession, two set of skeletons — believed to be of Hasan’s sons Aqib and Shaqib — were exhumed from a building in Burari on Monday evening.

Post-mortems will be conducted to confirm the identities of the bodies.

The two-storey building is one of many properties that Hasan and Bunty had allegedly encroached and the latter was running his office from there, said the police.

Hasan, who had contested the 2013 Assembly elections on BSP ticket from Badli constituency, was released on parole on May 17. His bullet-ridden body was found at his residence three days later.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Jatin Narwal said that the motive behind the murders seemed to be a dispute over property worth crores, which the duo had allegedly encroached or bought at throwaway prices.

All the property papers had been made in Hasan’s name, much to the chagrin of Bunty, said Mr. Narwal.

Phool Singh, a neighbour of Hasan, said he last saw the family on April 18. “In their absence, Bunty had visited a couple of times. I do not know why,” said Mr. Singh.

“Bunty confessed that on April 20, he took Hasan’s wife and two daughters to their relatives’ house in Saharanpur. On their way back to Delhi, he got all three killed with the help of contract killers at a farm in Meerut and buried them there. Bunty claimed that he hired the contract killers for ₹3 lakh,” said a senior police officer.

Two days later, when Hasan’s sons reached Bunty’s office enquiring about their mother and sisters, they too were strangulated by Bunty and the contract killers and buried in the office premises.

The three others arrested in the case are Bunty’s friend Deepak and two contract killers Feroze and Zulfiqar. At least two more contract killers are on the run.
