Minutes before a 20-year-old youth committed suicide in North-East Delhi’s Seelampur on Friday, he called the police control room and informed the police about his plans to take the extreme step. The deceased Shahzad told the police that his family should not be harassed after he kills himself, said A.K. Singla, DCP (North-East).
No suicide note has been found. The police are talking to his family to find out what led him to taking the extreme step.
The call was made around 6.30 pm on Friday. Soon after conveying his message to the police, Shahzad disconnected the call and switched off his mobile phone.

A police team was immediately dispatched to Seelampur’s K-Block from where the call was received, but since the police did not have his exact location, they were unable to trace the victim on time.
“Around 10.30 p.m., we received a call from Jag Pravesh Chandra hospital in Seelampur that there is a case of death by hanging. We rushed to the hospital and found that the deceased was none other than the youth who had made the call,” said an officer. Shahzad’s family told the police that he hanged himself at his older brother's wire manufacturing unit. Investigations are on.
