The victim’s father had approached officers at Ghazipur police station on Saturday stating that the girl had gone missing.

She had allegedly told the father that she was going to the market to buy something.

The police then scanned the CCTV footage in which the accused was seen taking the victim in an autorickshaw.

During investigation, he was traced to the madrasa and the girl was found there.

Accused apprehended

A senior police officer said that her statement was recorded in front of the magistrate on Monday and the accused was apprehended.

On Tuesday, several people staged a protest demanding the arrest of the cleric alleging his involvement.

The police said that he was being questioned whether he was aware of the accused’s presence.
