Asserting that the power supply in the city has shown improvement over the years, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday said even the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also expressed his happiness and satisfaction on the improved power situation in Delhi.

Ms. Dikshit was speaking at the 8th Foundation Day celebrations of the power sector companies Delhi Transco, Indraprastha Power Generation Company and Delhi Power Company here.

Even as she praised the efforts made to ensure that the city is power surplus, the Chief Minister asked the discoms to improve their performance. She said thought there was no shortfall of power for the city's use, outages were being reported on account of local faults and poor maintenance of the distribution network.

She said it is the responsibility of the discoms to ensure uninterrupted power supply for the city and asked them to simultaneously strengthen the system so that the load-shedding can be reduced.

Referring to the growing demand for power, Ms. Dikshit said even as the demand is on the rise, the city will have enough power once the upcoming power plants in Bawana and Jhajjar are commissioned and Delhi will get an additional 1,500 MW from Bawana while 750 MW will be available from Jhajjar.
