Not only some BJP workers, but even part of legal fraternity has also condemned the announcement of former IPS officer Kiran Bedi as the BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate, and burnt her effigy on Wednesday on Tis Hazari court premises.
The coordination committee of the Bar Association said that it condemned the announcement of Ms. Bedi as the CM candidate as she had once “done everything to avenge lawyers of Tis Hazari court”.
“The legal fraternity wants to place on record that the decision to make her (Ms. Bedi) the Chief Ministerial candidate on the basis of her administrative skill is contrary to the records,” the association said.
Association member and Delhi High Court Bar president Rajiv Khosla said in the 1980s, when Ms. Bedi was the DCP (North), she got the lawyers on strike assaulted by people posing as litigants.
“In the 1980s, Kiran Bedi had connived with a local contractor and brought people posing as litigants. The lawyers were on strike and were assaulted. Their chambers and vehicles were damaged. It was a commission of enquiry which noted findings against her,” said Mr. Khosla.
“Ms. Bedi lacks administrative skill. The maximum number of lathi-charge by the police was done when she was the DCP here,” he alleged.
“Ms. Bedi is known for creating circumstances to come in news. Thus the legal fraternity in no circumstances shall ever accept her as the Chief Minister of Delhi.”
Adverse findings
The lawyers’ body said, “One should think why Ms. Bedi was not given higher post at any time during her career. It was because of many adverse findings against her by the Wadhwa Commission. Even now one should look at her. She appears so arrogant. A public servant should be approachable.”
