A Rs. 5-crore Lamborghini Murcielago without a registration plate crashed into a divider near India Gate in the early hours of Thursday.

According to the police, the driver abandoned the car and ran away after the incident. The police are now trying to identify its owner through the registration number they found from the papers inside the car.

“A constable on night duty noticed a Lamborghini crashed into a divider near the Hexagon C-circle. When he went near the car, he noticed that the driver had abandoned the vehicle. He got the car towed to the Tilak Marg police station, where a case of rash driving against the driver was registered,” a police officer said.

All the tyres and the rear left portion of the car were completely damaged.

“Somebody must have taken the sports car for a late night spin as the roads are usually deserted and stepped on the gas not knowing its extreme acceleration capabilities,” said another police official.

The driver of the car has not been traced so far.
