Residents of Sarita Vihar exhibited mixed emotions on the opening of the underpass. The houses to the right of the underpass have no direct access to the underpass while those on the left can directly join the traffic on it.
The residents on Friday aired their grievances before the BJP MP from the area Maheish Girri minutes before the inauguration of the underpass.
“We are happy that finally the underpass is being opened for the public. We gave so much space for this. But look what the DDA has done. They denied us direct access to it. The area is closed,” said Praveen Srivsatava, head of the Federation of Sarita Vihar residents.

He said they will have to cover a distance of 2 km to reach the underpass. Ashutosh, an area resident, said: “We made so many representations before the DDA and the L-G and everyone possible, but in vain.”
The locals also wanted the government to provide elevators and escalators at the nearest metro stations. They also shared how they have identified acres of vacant land in their area and informed the DDA about it. “The DDA must develop the same,” they said.
