Neighbour abducted boy as she did not have her own child

A minor boy kidnapped allegedly by a 45-year-old woman and her boyfriend at Batala in Punjab about a month ago was rescued and the accused arrested at Adarsh Nagar in New Delhi on Thursday. The woman had allegedly masterminded the kidnapping as she did not have a child of her own.

Batala resident Satender Kaur had lodged a complaint with Punjab Police alleging that her younger son had gone missing from home on July 20. Her elder son Shehbaz disclosed that their neighbour Savita (45) had vanished after taking the boy along on the pretext of getting him sweets.

The South Delhi police received a tip-off on Thursday that the kidnapped child had been spotted with a woman in Adarsh Nagar. Discreet enquiries were made by policemen in plainclothes to corroborate the same and the police was able to zero in on the house where the boy was being kept.

A team mounted a raid and arrested Savita along with Ajay (28) after the child was found in their possession. During interrogation, Savita purportedly disclosed that she had divorced her husband about seven years ago and started living with her paramour Ajay at Jahangirpuri and later shifted to Adarsh Nagar.

During a recent visit to Punjab, where she took up jobs on contract during the harvest season, she allegedly planned to kidnap the boy and became friends with his mother. Sensing an opportunity, she picked up the boy, took a bus to Delhi and started living with Ajay at a rented accommodation.
