A child, who was allegedly kidnapped six years ago from northeast Delhi's Gokulpuri, has been rescued from Ghaziabad, the police said on Tuesday.

A reward of Rs.20,000 had been announced to trace the missing child. The family had lost all hope of finding him.

On February 1, 2011, a man named Rabbu Salam had filed a complaint that his five-year-old son had gone missing, said DCP (Northeast) Ajit Kumar Singla.

On the basis of the five-year-old’s photograph, efforts were made to locate him at government-run centres.

On February 6, the child was traced to a private orphanage in Sahibabad area of Ghaziabad. He had been lodged there by the UP Police, said the officer.

The child was living with a different name but his description matched to that of the photo.“The team found that his parents had shifted back to Bihar. The address provided at the time of lodging the complaint was of a rented accommodation that had been sold three times in the last five years,” said Mr. Singla. The present occupant had no knowledge about the whereabouts of the parents of the child.

However, the team managed to find the landlord of the house who provided the Bihar address of his tenants, said the officer. The mobile number of the child’s father was traced and he was called to Delhi and taken to the Sahibabad orphanage where he identified his son, he said.

The child, however, has no recollection of how he was kidnapped and how he reached the orphanage.
