Meets Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung, seeks a week’s time to explore possibilities of government formation

In an ironic twist, the Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday met Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung and submitted a letter seeking a week’s time to explore possibilities of government formation.

The letter signed by Mr. Kejriwal requested Mr. Jung not to dissolve the Assembly if he was planning to do so. The move comes as a surprise as AAP had been demanding dissolution of the Assembly ever since it resigned from the government in mid-February and had approached the Supreme Court to seek the dissolution.

“In next few days the AAP is going to organise public meetings in order to take public opinion. You are requested not to dissolve the Assembly for at least for a week if at all you are planning to,” said the letter.

Interestingly, AAP was tight-lipped about Mr. Kejriwal’s meeting with the Lieutenant-Governor. Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia described it a “courtesy call”.

But sources in the party said the issue of government formation indeed figured in Mr. Kejriwal’s talks with the L-G. The meeting comes after a section of the AAP MLAs demanded that the party leadership explore the possibility of government formation in Delhi with the support of the Congress.
