Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana was on Monday administered the oath of office as the new Chief Justice of Delhi High Court by Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung at a simple ceremony at Raj Niwas here.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and her Cabinet colleagues, senior members of the judiciary, Government and other officials were present at the ceremony. After the ceremony Justice Ramana made a courtesy call on President Pranab Mukherjee.
Earlier, the President had appointed Justice Ramana, a Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.

Fifty-six-year-old Justice Ramana was born in an agricultural family in Ponnavaram village, Krishna district. He enrolled as an advocate on February 10, 1983.
He has practiced in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, Central and Andhra Pradesh Administrative Tribunals and the Supreme Court in civil, criminal, constitutional, labour, service and election matters.
He has also functioned as panel counsel for various government organisations and as Additional Standing Counsel for Central Government and Standing Counsel for Railways in the Central Administrative Tribunal at Hyderabad.

He has also functioned as Additional Advocate General of Andhra Pradesh.
Justice Ramana was appointed as a permanent Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on June 27, 2000. He has also served as the president of the A. P. Judicial Academy and the executive chairman of the A. P. Legal Services Authority.
