The trial of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar and others for their alleged roles in a 1984 anti-Sikh riot case was deferred on Wednesday to next month as the judge conducting the trial has been elevated as District Judge.
Sunita Gupta, who was conducting the trial earlier as District Judge-cum-Additional Sessions Judge (East), has been elevated as District Judge-I. This has led to rescheduling of the case to November 11 as a new judge is yet to take over.
Kumar and five others are facing trial for allegedly instigating a mob which killed six persons in Delhi Cantt. area during the riots in the wake of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassination.

On the last hearing in the case on October 10, Delhi Police Inspector Sunil Kumar Vashisth had defended Kumar saying one of the complainants Jagdish Kaur had declined to join the probe. Appearing before the court as a defence witness, he said that Ms. Kaur had refused to identify any of the accused before inquiry commissions set up and also wanted no action against them.
