In a shocking incident of road rage, two motorcycle-borne young men and their friends attacked three judges and their driver after their bike had a minor collision with the car in which the judicial officers were travelling. It all happened at Dakshinpuri in South-East Delhi on Thursday.
The police said two of the accused have been arrested and a judge has been admitted to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences' JPNA Trauma Centre with serious head injuries.
The incident took place when the vehicle ferrying the judges home was passing through Maharshi Valmiki Road in Dakshinpuri around 5-30 p.m. “Metropolitan Magistrate Ajay Garg and two other judges were going home when a motorcycle hit their vehicle. The car driver then applied the brakes and cautioned the motorcyclist against rash driving,” said a police officer. This apparently led to an altercation between them, following which the motorcyclist and the pillion-rider called up their friends.

Over half-a-dozen persons soon reached the spot and started pelting stones on the car of the judges and assaulted them, seriously injuring Metropolitan Magistrate Ajay Garg in the head and the driver Chaman Lal. While the second judge got away with minor injuries, the third managed to escape unhurt.
The seriously injured magistrate was rushed to the Trauma Centre and the matter was reported to the police. By the time the police reached the spot, the assailants had fled, leaving their motorcycle behind.
While investigations were underway, the police received information that a young man with a minor head injury had reported to the Trauma Centre for treatment, stating that he had been attacked by some people.

“He turned out to be one of those involved in the case. The accused was identified as Anil (25), who works at a mall. During questioning he confessed to having attacked the judges after the accident. At his instance, we have arrested his accomplice Rohit and are trying to identify the others. Based on a complaint, we will register a case under appropriate provisions of law,” said the officer, adding that the assailants were residents of Ambedkar Nagar.
