Jolly apologises for protesting outside Shoma’s residence

BJP leader Vijay Jolly, who was booked for vandalising former Tehelka's former Managing Editor Shoma Chaudhury’s house, appeared before the National Commission for Women on Tuesday and apologised for his actions.

Mr. Jolly told the Commission that his intention was to protest against Tehelka and its management and not against the female journalist.

“In a sudden out-burst of passion against the culprits, I protested and spontaneously raised my objections. I never vandalised her house. In fact, I did not even enter her house. We never disrupted free flow of traffic in front of her house. But raising slogan against injustice is part of my fundamental right of freedom of speech and expression and not violation of law since there were no prohibitory orders in place in the area,” he told the NCW.

The NCW had issued a notice to Mr. Jolly after receiving a complaint from Ms. Chaudhury.
