Rajya Sabha MP Jogen Chowdhary, Prof. Emeritus of Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan, and former Keeper (Art) at Rashtrapati Bhavan (1972-87) has been invited to be the inaugural artist to stay at Rashtrapati Bhavan under the “In-Residence Scheme for Writers and Artists”.

According to Venu Rajamony, Press Secretary to the President, several paintings of Mr. Chowdhary already form part of Rashtrapati Bhavan’s art collection. Mr. Chowdhary will stay at Rashtrapati Bhavan for a period of 14 days beginning Monday.

The scheme was launched by the President in 2013 with the aim of providing established as well as young and upcoming writers and artists an opportunity to stay close to nature in the picturesque and serene surroundings of Rashtrapati Bhavan. “The programme seeks to provide an environment which will inspire creative thinking and rejuvenate artistic impulses. Various activities like reading sessions, exhibitions of works of art and interaction with the residents of Rashtrapati Bhavan, etc. are also to be organised in consultation with the selected writers/artists under the scheme,” said Mr. Rajamony.
