A 35-year-old street vendor is in the hospital recovering from grievous injuries after his 23-year-old girlfriend allegedly tried to chop off his genitals when he refused to marry her.
The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri.
The woman and her family are absconding.

The police said the victim went to his girlfriend’s house in Mangolpuri A-Block after receiving a call from the woman’s sister-in-law around 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The sister-in-law allegedly told the victim that his girlfriend was very upset and he needed to come immediately. “The two were in a relationship for over three years. She was asking him to marry her, but he used to refuse as he doubted her loyalty. He believed she was involved with someone else,” said a senior police officer.
When the man reached the house in the early hours of Thursday, the woman’s brother and sister-in-law were sitting with her and she raised the topic of marriage again. The police said the discussion went on for nearly four hours and then turned into a heated argument.

The girlfriend then told the victim that she needed to talk to him privately and allegedly took him to the washroom.
‘Attacked him with knife’
“The victim told us that when they went into the washroom, the woman asked him to have sex with her. When he refused, the woman got furious,” the officer said.
She then brought a knife from the kitchen and attempted to chop off the man’s genitals, the police said.
The man, bleeding profusely, rushed to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital himself from where he was referred to Jaipur Golden Hospital.
“His genitals are severely injured. He has undergone surgery and he is out of danger,” said the officer.
The police have registered a case under Section 326 (Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons) at Mangolpuri police station.
