In a bid to enhance exchanges between Japan and India at school level, Japan Ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu on Monday held a reception at his residence in Delhi, where select principals and teachers from both the countries were present.

“The relationship between India and Japan has been progressing in a very significant manner over the last few years. With several headmasters from both the countries coming together, this is a great opportunity for school-level exchanges between both the countries,” said Mr. Hiramatsu.

Highlighting the importance of Indian teachers being trained in Japanese language, the Ambassador said, “While we are pleased to see many Indians want to study Japanese language, due to lack of teachers, students do not have enough opportunities and that is sad. We recently started a new initiative to train future teachers in Japanese language with cooperation from the JNU. This is a significant progress in exchange between the two countries even at the school level.”

“We would like to expand this kind of project in future. It is our challenge to increase the number of students who will be able to study in high-level universities in Japan. We would like to see more collaborative exchanges between the two countries at school level. There is a lot of talent in India in the field of science and technology. I hope many schools in Japan will see India as a destination for exchanges and vice-versa” said Mr. Hiramatsu.
