Delhi airport operator DIAL is “better equipped” to deal with fog in the Capital, which is expected to witness three to four spells of dense fog soon, said officials. The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), the busiest in the country, handles around 1,300 flight movements daily.
Airport capacity reduces by nearly 40% of the normal capacity in flight movement per hour on account of fog, said S.B. Sharma, General Manager, Air Traffic Management, Airports Authority of India. He said there are around 74 flight movements every hour.
Dense fog is expected in the last week of December and there are likely to be three to four spells in the coming weeks, said R.K. Jenamani, Director, India Meteorological Department, IGIA.

DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said it is “better equipped” compared to last year to deal with fog situation. Operations are closed if runway visibility range drops below 50 metres.
