Teachers belonging to the three municipal corporation schools were awarded for meritorious service at separate functions as part of Teachers’ Day celebrations on Wednesday.
In a function organised at Thyagaraj Stadium, the Delhi government too gave awards to 91 teachers, including heads of school.
These teachers included 62 government teachers, 13 private school teachers and 12 teachers from municipal schools.

Handing out the awards, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “The AAP government was able to improve education with the help of teachers and it is teachers who shape the future of the nation.”
Cash prizes
The South Delhi Municipal Corporation facilitated 26 primary teachers, two nursery teachers and one special teacher.

Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal and senior corporation officials were present at the ceremony, which saw the awardees being given a cash prize of ₹10,000 each.
Tour of north-east States
Speaking at the event, Education Committee chairperson Nandini Sharma said all the awardees will be sent on a tour of north-east States to keep them “abreast of the local culture”.
She said a new award for teachers, called ‘Shikshak Ratan’, will be instituted from next year onwards.
CCTV cameras
Ms. Sharma added that CCTV cameras will be installed in all SDMC schools by March next year and that an education helpline will also be launched soon.
At a ceremony held at the Civic Centre on Minto Road and presided by Union Ministers Jitendra Singh and Kiren Rijiju, the North Corporation awarded four principals, 28 teachers, one physical education teacher and a nursery teacher with cash prizes of ₹7,000.
The East Corporation awarded 19 teachers at a ceremony at its headquarters in Partpaganj. East Mayor Bipin Bihari Singh commended the teachers for working with dedication despite the corporation’s poor financial condition.
