To mark National Science Day, non-government organisation Science Popularisation Association of Communicators and Educators in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India is conducting a “Heritage Walk” at Jantar Mantar here on February 28.
Experts from the NGO will discuss and demonstrate the working of the Masonic instruments at the astronomical observatory. Participants will find out how astronomers studied the motions of the sun, moon and planets without the help of any high-tech satellites or telescopes and told time without any clocks.
Students from different schools and colleges of Delhi and the National Capital Region are expected to attend this walk on first-cum first-serve basis.“Students can learn science by observing things around them. This is the motivation for the heritage walk at Jantar Mantar. National Science Day is celebrated on February 28 across the country to commemorate C. V. Raman's discovery of the Raman effect. He won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 for the phenomenon called Raman scattering,” said a SPACE representative.
