Several organisations working with domestic workers across the country took out a march from Nathupur village here to DLF Phase-III, demanding immediate police action in a case pertaining to the rape and murder of a teenage domestic help in January 2014.

Several domestic workers and activists, holding placards accusing the police of inaction, marched to the house of the accused in DLF Phase-III on Thursday under the aegis of the Gharelu Kaamgar Sangathan.

The 14-year-old girl was found hanging at the house of her employer on the afternoon of January 29, 2014, under mysterious circumstances. An First Information Report was registered against the employer and his two sons on charges of murder and rape.
Elizabeth Kh, co-ordinator, Gharelu Kaamgar Sangathan (Gurgaon), accused the police of inaction in the case saying that the forensic report categorically stated that the DNA of the seminal samples of the accused matched with that of the vaginal swabs taken from the victim’s body.
The girl, who belonged to Rajasthan, had been working with the family for over two years.

“This demonstration is the outburst of public sentiment for justice, which is supported by various domestic workers organisations, women’s rights groups and organisations, individual activists and human rights activists from across India. Rape and murder cannot be covered by money and influence. The police and the government must act fast so that the public can reaffirm their faith that justice is above money and influence,” said
As many as 36 organisations comprising women’s groups, domestic workers’ union, central trade unions, human rights activists have supported this campaign for justice for the victim all over the country, said a statement issued by the union.
