The body of one of the two pavement dwellers, who was run over by a drunk driver in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden in the early hours of Sunday, remained unclaimed till Monday evening.
The family members of the other deceased said he was guarding his tea stall when the incident happened. Two persons identified as Krishan Dubey and Noora were killed while two others, Ram Singh and Manoj, were critically injured when accused Devesh, a BCA graduate working with a Gurugram firm, ran them over in a drunken state.
Krishan’s wife Sandhya, at the mortuary of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, said that the victim had two jobs to make ends meet and used to stay near their tea stall to guard it.

“He used to pull rickshaw in the morning after opening the tea stall and then would come back around 8 p.m. He used to mostly sleep on the pavement because we have been victims of theft a few times which had scared him,” she said, adding that their house is in Nangloi.
Ms. Sandhya used to take care of the tea stall when her husband used to pull rickshaw. The family said that Krishan’s parents live in Kharagpur. They said are in the hospital for the last 15-20 days and that they have fallen severely ill after hearing the news of his death. “They are in their 80s and he used to take care of them and send them money,” Ms. Sandhya said. Talking about their only daughter Jyoti (17), Ms. Sadhna said that the deceased had plans for her education and wanted her to pursue a professional course, something that none in the family had done so far.
