fter the launch of an app-based bus and auto services in Gurgaon during the past few months, now an app-based two wheeler service will soon be available for the commuters in the Millennium City to provide better last-mile connectivity.
This bike taxi service will be launched by M-TAXI on December 1 and can be hailed by a commuter on the spot currently. The service will soon be available on demand via app. “It is the first-of-its-kind two-wheeler taxi service to be launched in India. Though two-wheelers are available for commercial purposes in Goa, but that is for rent. It provided the much-needed last mile connectivity and is quick, convenient and economical,” said founder and Chief Executive Officer, M-TAXI, Arunabh Madhur
“The service will be first launch in Gurgaon, which will be followed in the next phase with a launch across the National Capital Region,” said Mr. Madhur.

To begin with ten motorcycle taxis with male riders will be available at HUDA City Centre metro station from the next month. “Soon we will add more motorcycles, scooters and women riders to the service,” said Mr. Madhur. The service will be available between 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.
He said that it took him more than a year to seek requisite clearances from the Haryana Government for the service.
On the high rate of accidents among two-wheelers, Mr. Madhur said that the company had left stone unturned in its focus on safety and hygiene. “We are the highest producer and consumer of two-wheelers in the world. Despite safety concerns, two-wheelers are highly popular mode of transport in India. Still the company has in place the required insurances for the motorcycle, the rider, and the passenger. All riders go through stringent background verification and are trained on aspects of safety, etiquette, efficiency and hygiene. Both the rider and pillion rider will be wearing full face helmets and provided with disposable caps and tissues,” said Mr. Madhur. The taxi would cost Rs.25 for the first three km and Rs.5 for every subsequent kilometre and the passenger would be provided with a bill.

“We also seek to make a difference many ways, such as providing last-mile connectivity to commuters from metro and bus stations which currently have slow and inefficient last mile connectivity to offices, colleges, schools, and residential areas. It will also help create employment for riders in an attempt to improve the employment situation within this largely underemployed resource pool. Also this service opens up new vistas for employment to women as riders, thereby, bridging the gender bias and giving women passengers the option to ride with a women pilot,” said Mr. Madhur.
The two-wheeler taxi services are already popular in many countries across the world, like Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Brazil, Cameroon, China, Nigeria, and Sweden.
