Around 400 ex-students of Delhi Government schools have registered themselves with the Delhi Government School Alumni and have pledged to contribute in development of their schools.
The Delhi Government’s Directorate of Education has provided a link of the alumni on the Delhi Government website so that other ex-students who are occupying respectable positions in different spheres of society can contribute to the endeavour, officials said.
“I am a proud product of a government school. It struck me that it would be a good idea to provide a common platform to the alumni of government schools where they can come together and contribute in their own ways for their beloved alma maters,” said Padmini Singla, Director (Education).

“It will be a wonderful opportunity for like-minded citizens who were educated in government schools, succeeded in their careers and now are in a position to do something for their school,” she added.
In a similar exercise, the alumni of Shakti Nagar No.1 Government Boys School have formed an association named ‘Shakti Nagar No.1 Old Boys Association’ (SHOBA). The Association has donated two water coolers, two air conditioners to the school and recently created a Smart Class at the cost of around Rs.9 lakh. The School Principal R.A.Verma has also contributed Rs.1 lakh towards the cause, officials said.
“One of the ex-students of the school, who is now an AGM rank officer in a nationalised bank, provided furniture and furnishings worth Rs.30 lakh to the school,” an official said.

The association is also planning to create a fund of Rs.1 crore for the welfare of school students. Some of the high-profile students of the school include former Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta, former cricketers Ajay Sharma and Surinder Khanna, Mukesh Khullar (IAS), Arvind Kumar (IAS) and Sandeep Goyal (IPS).
