The Delhi government has started the online application process for nursery admission for the upcoming academic session to over 150 Sarvodaya Vidyalayas. The application window will remain open till March 18 via the Directorate of Education’s website.
The move to introduce nursery classes in a select number of its Sarvodaya Vidyalayas comes after a turbulent period in January, when the government announced the criteria needed to be followed by private unaided schools here.

Bone of contention
The “neighbourhood criteria” for schools built on Delhi Development Authority land became a bone of contention and had to be sorted out legally.

The government introduced nursery classes in select Sarvodaya Vidyalayas in an attempt to revamp the education sector in the city. It has also drawn up plans to extend this number in the future.
Children above the age of three years will be eligible for admission to schools that offer nursery as the entry class.
In a circular, the government informed that for nursery class, the child must be born between April 1, 2013, and March 31, 2014.
Reserved seats
Of the seats up for grabs for admission, 15% will be reserved for the scheduled caste, 7.5% for the schedule tribes, 3% for physically handicapped, 2% for wards of DoE employees, 1% for wards of the Ministerial staff and 1% for wards of teachers.
Parents can select five Sarvodaya Vidyalayas as per their preference in the application form. Once the application has been verified, admissions will take place through online draw of lots on March 22. The classes will begin from the first week of April.
The parents will need to provide their child’s Adhaar number, bank account number, date of birth and one passport-size photograph.
Admissions to KG and Class I will also be done using the same form. For admission to KG, children who have completed four years will be eligible. For Class I, applicants should be born between April 1, 2011, and March 31, 2012. The deadline in March 18.
